Frisco RoughRiders Season Opening Series
Despite 15 strikeouts from the pitching staff, the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, dropped Saturday’s series finale against the Tulsa Drillers by a count of 5-0.
Big Moments in the Series included lefty Wes Benjamin making his Double-A debut and registered eight strikeouts in four innings of work. The lefty permitted two runs on five hits. Benjamin’s eight punchouts were one off tying a career-high, set last season with Advanced-A Down East.
Tulsa starter Justin De Fratus kept the Riders quiet, yielding three hits across six shutout innings to pick up the win.
The Drillers added to a 2-0 edge with a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and an additional tally in the seventh to take the rubber match.
Riders pitchers finished the three-game series against Tulsa with 38 strikeouts. Tommy Joseph singled in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to three games.
